The Dolphin Project
*Teachers "Teaching" Live from
the Field*
Beginning February 12, 2001, Team Voyagers will embark on an incredible
journey. Our science teacher, Mrs. Neri will be joining Dr. Randy
Wells and his team of scientists for one week to participate in
his study of wild dolphin societies in the Sarasota Bay area. This
opportunity was provided by The Earthwatch Institute. Funding is
provided by the Rhode Island Foundation from the Virginia B. Butler
and Abbie A. Brougham Memorial Funds, established to educate Rhode
Island residents about animal humane issues.
While in Florida, Mrs. Neri will be sending daily journals telling
of the research teams activities for the day, along with data from
the day's sightings, and pictures and video clips from the field.
We will be recording the data just as the team is doing, and with
the help of Mrs. DiPaolo, we will have the opportunity to send questions
back to Mrs. Neri each day.
The most exciting part of the project will take place on Friday,
February 16, when the class will participate in a live video conference
with Mrs. Neri in Sarasota. We may even get to meet Dr. Wells, "The
Dolphin Man", himself!
So, check back with us during the week of February 11 -February
16, 2001 to get all the news.
Abridged reports and pictures from the field can be viewed daily
