“Supporting the academic, physical, social and emotional well being of all students of the Ashton Elementary School

Dear Ashton Families,

Hello & welcome to Ashton Elementary School!  For some of you this is a welcome back to Ashton & others it is a welcome to Ashton. Either way, we are glad you are here!  My name is Christine Amadio and I am the 2007 – 2008 Ashton PTO President. The purpose of this letter is motivate you to become an active member in the Ashton PTO. Once you hear about all of the NEAT, FUN & WONDERFUL activities we support at Ashton, you are going to want to sign up immediately!!

Ashton PTO Overview In 11 Questions:

#1 – What is PTO?

PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization

#2 – What does the PTO do?

The PTO plans activities (i.e. fundraisers, events, special activities & items for teachers.)

#3 – How does the PTO plan these activities?

The activities at Ashton are planned through PARENT VOLUNTEERS – YOU!

#4 – What do the parent volunteers do?

Parent volunteers are the core of the PTO. Parent volunteers chair committees to run events, sign up to be on an event committee, donate food or drinks for an activity, make copies, you name it, we’ll make it work!

#5 – What else does the PTO do?

Ashton PTO also provides funding to teachers for activities and items that the classes might not have without our support.

#6 – What are these “items & activities?”

Ashton PTO provides funding for class trips for every grade, in school cultural events, Young Authors Writing Books, financial support for art, physical education and music teachers, Scholastic Weekly Readers, partial support for after school programs late bus, support for technology in the classroom, maintenance/updates for Ashton’s web site and anything else that needs our help.

#7 – Where does the money come from?

FUNDRAISING!! Our student’s raise money through various fundraisers through out the year.

#8 – How much money needs to be earned during the school year to fund PTO sponsored         activities?

The Ashton PTO’s estimated budget for 2007 – 2008 is approximately $18,000 or about $50.00 per student.

#9 – How many fundraisers are planned for the 2007 – 2008 school year?

The Ashton Fundraising committee tentatively has five fundraisers planned for this year. Three of them are “student driven,” Halloween Walk – A – Thon, Read – A Thon & “Dancing For Field Day.”  The other two are catalog sales  - Genevieve & Worthington.

#10 – Do I have to participate in fundraising?

Nobody has to buy anything they do not want to. We have families at Ashton who make a monetary donation at the beginning of the year and do not feel the need to buy items from our fundraisers.  Do not forget that DONATING YOUR TIME is just as important as a monetary donation.   Every family needs to do what is best for them.

#11 – How do I get involved?

There are a few different ways to get involved in Ashton’s PTO:

a.      Complete the attached form & return it to school with your child.

b.      Sign up at the Ashton Open House on September 13th from 3 –4 pm.

c.      Join us at the first PTO meeting on Tuesday, September 25th @ 6:00 pm for a “meet & greet” or 6:30 pm for the actual meeting.

d.      Once you have volunteered for a committee, it is the job of the Committee Chairperson to contact you and keep you informed about your committee.

With your help we are looking forward to an AMAZING 2007 – 2008!  You are encouraged to come to our PTO meetings (usually the third Tuesday of the month, exceptions do occur) and find out for yourself what’s going on at Ashton.  One of the best investments you can make in your child is being involved with their school and PTO is a fun & easy way to do it.
