Dear Kindergarten Parents:
Welcome to Ashton School. We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our new kindergarten class. I am sure that you and your child are excited about the start of the new school year. To help you prepare, I would like to share some important information pertinent to the opening of kindergarten at Ashton School.
On Thursday, August 30th there will be an open house and orientation for our new kindergarteners and their parents at 10:00 in the school cafeteria. As part of the program, you and your child will have an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and visit the kindergarten classroom. There will also be an opportunity for your child to take a short ride on a school bus. A representative from the bus company will be available to answer any questions that you might have.
The first day of school for all kindergarteners is Wednesday, September 5th. The morning kindergarten session is from 8:30am to 11:00am and the afternoon session is from 12:00pm to 2:30pm.
Children who attend the morning session will be picked up at the neighborhood bus stop. Most busses begin their routes at about 7:50am and unload at the school between 8:15am and 8:30am. For safety reasons, children should not be dropped off at the school prior to 8:15am. Children who arrive after 8:30am are considered tardy and must be brought to the office by the transporting parent. At dismissal time, busses will bring morning kindergarteners to their homes. Someone must be at home to receive the child. If a parent is not at home and visible to the driver, the child will be returned to the school and the parent will be notified.
Children who attend the afternoon session will be picked up at their homes. The afternoon kindergarten bus begins its route at about 11:20am. Children must be ready when the bus arrives. If a child is brought to school by a parent, that parent must wait with the child until 12:00pm. Students who are brought to school after 12:00pm are considered tardy and must be brought to the office by the transporting parent. Afternoon kindergarten students are dismissed along with all the other students at approximately 2:30pm. They will be dropped off at the neighborhood bus stop. Parents should ensure that there is always a responsible person at home to receive the child.
Please note that it takes a few days for the bus routes to become established, so please allow for variations in the pick up and drop off times. If you wish to have your child picked up or dropped off at a location other than your home, please call Ashton School as soon as possible for more information on how to request such arrangements.
Local newspapers will publish bus stop and bus schedule information prior to the start of school. For more information, you may call the bus company at 334-3745. Other questions can be answered by calling Ashton School at 333-0554.
Have a wonderful summer. We look forward to seeing you at the open house and orientation.
Sincerely,
Nidia Karbonik
Principal
