The Southern Rhode Island Collaborative Education and Training
Center (SORICO), created in 1988 by the RI Legislature, is a regional
service agency working with 9 school districts in southern Rhode Island.
This includes 8 high schools, 11 middle schools and 33 elementary
schools. There are about 23,000 students, of which 25% receive special
education services. The nine districts include Block Island, Chariho,
East Greenwich, Exeter/West Greenwich, Jamestown, Narragansett, North
Kingstown, South Kingstown and Westerly.
SORICO, in partnership with its member districts,
provides leadership to ensure strong student achievement through
the development and delivery of high quality programs and services
using cost effective, collaborative and entrepreneurial strategies.

for schools, communities and families as students with disabilities

- Leader in coordinating professional development activities related
to HS Reform, School to Career, Secondary Transition, Reading Recovery,
Teacher Assistants, Secondary Literacy
- Servicing 42 students ForwardVIEW Alternative Learning and Clinical
Day Programs
- Provide vocational evaluations and summer work experience program
for students with disabilities
- Screening of 900 children aged 3-5 to identify early intervention
needs
- KeyWork RI Foundation Leadership Grant
- Professional development for School Committee members and Superintendents
